Bridge
A bridge is one method used to replace a missing tooth that is described as a “fixed” prosthesis. Meaning it is not removable. The teeth directly beside the missing tooth are prepared to hold the bridge. These teeth are known as the abutment teeth. A bridge is then fabricated by a lab to fit on the abutment teeth and connecting crowns fill in the space. The bridge is then permanently cemented to the abutment teeth. After a bridge is cemented, it is imperative that the patient maintains good oral hygiene. The most common cause of bridge failure is decay at the junction point where a natural tooth meets the crown.
